Pauline Margaret-Lillian Baker, age 88, of Williamstown, West Virginia, passed away peacefully while surrounded by members of her beloved family on the morning of December 17th, 2019. Pauline, a proud citizen of these United States, was born on August 7th, 1931 to the late Lawrence and Florence Baker in the London Borough of Lewisham, England, United Kingdom. A survivor of the Battle of Britain and the Second World War, Pauline met her husband Robert Baker on a presumably wet English summer day in 1951 when the young American airman took it upon himself to make introductions by cavalierly kicking the tip of Pauline’s umbrella while waiting for a train in the London Underground. They were married shortly thereafter in 1952 and were never far apart over the 60 years that followed until Robert’s death on December 19th, 2012. Pauline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and sister, a devout member of the Christian faith, and a keen solver of solitaire and crossword puzzles who loved to spend her time with family or in a good book. Pauline is survived by her two daughters, Debra Hinton of Parkersburg, West Virginia and Tracy (Dale) Dominick of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Matthew (Cierra) de Gruyter of Bend, Oregon; David Bradford of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Michael (Christina) Hinton of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; David Hinton of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Alexandra (Drake) Logston of Marietta, Ohio; Stephen Baker of Nashville, Tennessee; Staci Baker of Columbus, Ohio; Erin (Brandon) Hendrickson of Marietta, Ohio; and Sydney, Gabriel, and Abigail Dominick of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren, Riley and Claire de Gruyter of Bend, Oregon; Gage Logston of Marietta, Ohio; and Brayden and Emma Hendrickson of Marietta, Ohio; her sister, Joan (Peter) Ayres of Seaton, England, United Kingdom; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins across the pond; and her faithful canine companion, Tink. Pauline is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Baker; brothers, Bernard and Graham Baker; daughter, Jacqueline Baker; and son, Stephen Baker. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock pm, with burial to follow on Saturday, December 21st, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home located at 1934 Dupont Road, Parkersburg, West Virginia. Visitation will be during the hours prior to the funeral service, from 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pauline’s life with her family and loved ones. The family of Pauline Margaret-Lillian Baker would appreciate expressions of condolence in the form of flowers. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sunsetparkersburg.com.
