Steven F.M Sharpe, known by most as "Mikey" passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Nov. 19, 2020 at the age of 41 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Mikey is survived by his daughter, Julia Grace Kerry Sharpe, age 9 of Parkersburg, WV; his brother, Kerry Shrew Anthony (Jessica) of Washington, WV; his sister Melissa M. Hanson of Parkersburg; Nephews, Zacharyah Hanson (Tara), Cole Anthony and Bryar Anthony; Niece, Maizy Anthony and great nephew and nieces, Bryson, Aaryah and Irelyn Hanson. He was preceded in death by his mother Dianna K. Sharpe and infant great niece Kynnedee Xyaryah Hanson.

Mikey was a 1997 graduate of Parkersburg South High School where he was a 2x State Wrestling Champion and a High School All American. He attended Missouri Valley College where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and majored in History and minored in Alcohol and Drug Studies. After graduating he returned to Parkersburg where he worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor at a rehabilitation facility. In his later years he trained as a MMA Fighter where he won multiple titles in multiple states. He then gave back to his community by becoming a youth softball coach where he was a mentor to many.

Mikey loved WVU Football and anything North Carolina State. He was by far the biggest Green Bay Packers fan in the state of West Virginia with an unhealthy infatuation with Brett Favre. Also a huge Daryl Strawberry fan, he was happy to tell you that he had every card of his and also had the honor of speaking with him via video chat just weeks before his death.

By far, his proudest accomplishment and greatest joy was his daughter Julia Grace. Dads are someone to look up to, someone to follow, someone to admire, someone to be proud of, someone to brag about and someone to learn from. Julia has the honor of saying she had all of that and much, much more.

Mikey was a true friend to us all and he will be sorely missed. He made the World a better place.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 2PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11AM to 2PM at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will take place at Premier Athletics in Vienna following the service.

Mikey was a great guy that I was blessed enough to have known briefly working oil and gas. He and Kerry were always such good people to work with. Mikey would light up any room he entered and couldn't speak highly enough about his daughter, Jessica. She was his whole world and you could see the way he loved Jessica just by looking in his eyes everytime he spoke about her. The world is a little less bright today without his presence.

Much love and prayers to the family and especially Kerry & Jessica. ♥

I'd like to express my deepest condolences for your loss. You may not know me, but I had the pleasure of having Mike as my junior high wrestling coach at Blennerhassett. At the time I didn't know it, but I would eventually come out as a gay man. I was never a typical teenage boy and was often picked on for how I presented myself. There isn't a doubt in my mind that Mike didn't know, or have some kind of suspicion that I was gay. Nonetheless he treated me the same as all of the other wrestlers. He pushed us hard, but always found a way to make training fun. I had been wrestling for close to a decade at this point and was starting to feel a little burnt out. Mike helped me rekindle my love for wrestling, while also making me feel like I belonged in a sport that doesn't usually accept people like me. For this, I will forever be grateful to him.

I went to college and was a fraternity member with Mikey and shared a lot of great memories that I will never forget. I will always remember his kindness, friendship and what a great person he was. He is still teaching me as I see what a wonderful father he is. He will be a part of all of the lives he has touched. I have been intending to get in touch with Mikey but will see you again, RIP my friend.

I met Mikey through his brother Shrew who I have known forever. They were coaching Blenny wrestling and I was coaching Edison. It was so fun to hang out at tournaments and traveling with team West Virginia in the off season. Kids loved Mikey and he made everyone smile. We will all miss him. He was a great friend and a great father.

I grew up with Mikey. His mom babysat me and my brothers for a few years when we were little. I remember riding our bikes to the baseball card shop, and finding additions to his Darryl Strawberry collection. I remember playing baseball and Warhawks football with him at Godbey.
After high school, our circles overlapped and we hung out a lot again. Those days were a lot of fun...with far too many memories to share. But my goodness, did we have fun!
It’s been a few years since I’ve seen Mikey. It hurts to know that I could’ve reached out and didn’t. But knowing the friends he had around, I’m sure that he was happy and very well taken care of.
Mikey was an incredible person, full of talent and joy. This community has lost a wonderful role model, coach, and friend. So, I pray for his daughter, his family, his friends, the kids he coached, and anyone else who’s life was touched by Mike Sharpe. The Good Lord knows there are many. RIP, buddy. 💔

I knew Mike when he wrestled for South, he was always fun to be around and was a great wrestler. He always had a story or would be the subject of a story - what a fun time. Occasionally, I would see Mike and it always seemed like it was just yesterday that we had talked. Always a friend you will be missed.
