

It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Andrew Jackson Steen on September 14, 2025, at the age of 82 on Denman Island, B.C. He was born in Aklavik on February 2, 1943, the 8th of 14 Inuvialuit children.
Jackson had varying interests and enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including music, filmmaking (NFB), photography, astronomy, and he was also an artist. Many people purchased or were given paintings over the years. He was also mechanically inclined, and kept himself busy in his retirement years tinkering in his yard. He even kept chickens at one point! He also enjoyed restoring watercraft and built a sailboat at one time. Evenings spent down at the beach was a favorite pastime of his, and many islanders got to know him this way.
His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Doris Butt (Bruce Sabatier); grandchildren Noah and Laura Sabatier; as well as numerous relatives and friends throughout Canada. He was predeceased by his parents and 13 siblings.
Viewing will be available for ½ hour before the graveside service, which will be held at Yates Cemetery, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, B.C. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 12:00 pm. After the service (which will be live streamed), there’ll be a time of fellowship and refreshments. An opportunity will also be given at that time, for guests to share any memories they have of Jackson. All are welcome.
