It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful, loving mother, Doris. Doris was born in Kortrijk, Belgium and lived in Scotland, Ireland, England, and West Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1968.
Doris lived her life devoted to God and her family. She was gentle, kind, courageous, and patient. She had a zest for life and a wonderful sense of humour. Doris loved music, nature, and being active outdoors. She was a compassionate nurse and was very involved in her volunteer work at church and in her communities. Doris was a faithful and trustworthy friend to everyone who knew her.
Mother to children David (Susan), Iain, Shelagh (Lowell), Ruth (Helmut), Jen, and stepson Merlin (Annemarie). Grandmother to Julie (Derek), Amy (Adam), Daniel (Kevin), Adam (Kaylee), Andrew (Nicole), Wendy (Sheldon), Nathan (Breanne), Stephen (Jennelle), David (Avery), Robert (Mihaela), Marc (Yonca). Great grandmother to Madden, Addison, Brady, Evelynn, Eric, Oliver, Blake, Kara, Ava, Bethany and Madison. Predeceased by her loving husband, Bob, and stepdaughter Jacqueline.
“We never lose our loved ones. They accompany us, they don't disappear from our lives. We are merely in different rooms.” Paulo Coelho
“There was something in her higher than what surrounded her. There was in her the glow of the real diamond among glass imitations. This glow shone out in her exquisite, truly enigmatic eyes ... Everyone looking into those eyes fancied he knew her wholly, and knowing her, could not but love her.” Leo Tolstoy
Thank you to the amazing staff at Trillium Hospice for your loving and compassionate care of our mother, and support for our family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date when circumstances allow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Doris's name to The Canadian Cancer Society or Operation Eyesight Universal.
