In 1943, your mother Agnes took a leave to care for my family (her brother-in-law Ernie and his two children, Shirley, age 9 and Bill, age 2) as her sister Helen was hospitalized. 

Aunt Agnes treated me with love and kindness.  My sister and I became very fond of her.
I have three little memories of that time.
I remember her coming to the house, in uniform, exuding affection, cooperation, and an energetic willingness to take over the management of the house.
I remember her in our kitchen, ironing my father's clothes.
I remember her helping me go upstairs in my pajamas.
My pajamas had slick feet and Agnes didn't want me to fall.

I remember seeing her once more.  My family traveled to Vancouver in 1949.
I believe she had one or two small children.
Joe seemed totally engaged in his business.  I was fascinated and asked him way too many seven year old questions about the war surplus gear.

It saddens me that another great soul has left this life.

I am so sorry to hear about the death of your mom.  My Great Aunt Marion shared the sad news with me on Sunday.  My mom, Shirley English Kerr, used to speak of your Mom fondly and said she was a favourite of hers when my mom was growing up.  She related the admiration she had for her Aunt Agnes being in the airforce and was so sad when Agnes’s fiance was shot down.  I am sorry I never got to know your side of the family but the distance was a challenge.   I let my Uncle Bill and Aunt Lue ( my mom’s brother and sis in law) know as well and they would appreciate if you would be able to share any information about a possible memorial for your Mom or her obit.  I am including them in this correspondence.  While it is likely that you already have the photos, when I have some time I will have a look and scan and send you any photos of your Mom that I have from my grandmother and my mom.

Since this is the first time that I have written to my Martin cousins, please accept my sympathies.  My siblings, and certainly I do continue to have moments of sadness over our loss of Dad.  We all cherish our memories of him and all of our Scholfield aunts and uncles.  We had many good times visiting each of them and several of us had visits with Agnes over the years.  I remember sitting in a coffee shop with her as she outlined the family tree and shared her memories.  I am saddened by your loss.

I was very sad to hear of the news of you mother/grandmother's passing. I remember meeting her at the time of Ron and Susan's wedding, such a gracious lady she was. My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time. Love, Joyce

Hi all, thank you for including the lovely picture, Mary. Have shared it with the family here in Austin. Another small memory of aunt Agnes, triggered by your mention of the Havergal hymn: a trunk of her school stuff  from the Havergal period was squirreled away in the attic on the Stamford farm. The trunk was a treasure trove for me of school uniforms and pretty clothes, school books, and artwork in many media, all of which which was extremely well done. Far more interesting than anything on offer at my local high school. 
The later round robin letters were eagerly shared in Stamford by Helen, Olive and Gramma Scholfield over cups of tea, and forwarded on to either Marion or Agnes from there, each taking out their previous letter and adding a new one. The envelopes got pretty fat from time to time....Marjorie
