Ed leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara Lowden, and son William, aunt Sandra, cousins John (Marissa), Julie, and Shelley, and Barbara’s extended family. Ed was predeceased by his father Edward, mother Doreen, and brother Dave.
Ed was born in Collingwood, Ontario, and moved with his family to Scarborough where he grew up and attended W A Porter Collegiate Institute. It was at school where he was introduced to the French Language. Ed received a BA and later a BEd in Library Studies and French. Ed started his teaching career in Merritt and eventually moved to Delta. He enjoyed a wonderful 33 year career teaching elementary French Immersion in the Delta School District. Ed continued to develop professionally and attained a MA in Modern Languages at UBC. In addition to his academic pursuits, Ed had a variety of interests. He studied martial arts and attained his black belt in Judo and Hapkido. He also enjoyed collecting and sharing movies especially film noir. Ed and Barbara travelled to many places and created fond memories, especially during their numerous house exchanges to Florida, Switzerland, London, and Scotland.
Ed was most proud of becoming a father and raising his son William with Barbara. In retirement, their family moved to the San Pareil area of Parksville, their paradise, where they enjoyed the nature and beauty of the ocean, the Englishman River, and Rathtrevor Park along with their chocolate lab, Lily.
A one-of-a-kind person, Ed will be greatly missed by his family and friends with whom he cherished spending time.
A Celebration of Life for Ed will be held on Sunday, March 1st at 1:30 pm, at the Arbutus Grove Church, 170 W. Hirst Avenue, Parksville.
