Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Valerie, daughter Karen (Manny), son Kevin (Samantha),and grandchildren Cameron and Sophia, Also survived by nephew Trevor (Diana) and great-niece Leah, and cousins in Ontario, New Brunswick, South Carolina, and British Columbia .
Ted grew up in Ocean Park and graduated from Semiahmoo High School, where his involvement in school activities won him the honour of “Best All Round Boy” in his grad class. He went on to UBC to complete his degrees in Commerce and Law, and practiced in New Westminster, Surrey, and White Rock. He attempted retirement but did not succeed the first time, practicing briefly in Parksville before finally leaving the practice of Law.
Ted loved camping and travelling with his family, and spending time at “the cabin” at Loon Lake. Over the years of living in South Surrey he learned to ride a horse, pitch hay, dig fencepost holes, string page wire, cut down trees and cut them up, and generally look after our 5 acre property. He also took up the bagpipes in his mid-thirties and played with friends and various small bands until his illness forced him to put the pipes down. He also enjoyed singing Barbershop harmony with the First Capital Chorus in Langley, where he made many new friends.
Ted was diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2023 and was given 1-3 months to live. He stubbornly refused to comply with this diagnosis and managed to have a mostly pleasant life until the disease caught up with him in early June. He was admitted to Hospice in Courtenay on June 21 and received excellent care until his body gave out on June 27. He will be missed greatly by his family and his many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, on July 20 at 1:30 pm. The family welcomes your attendance if possible.
