Ethel was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Estella Jackson, first husband, Rod Clement, brother, Ralph and Alice Jackson, husband, Richard Garrett in laws, Frank and Margaret Clement, Harold and Jackie Clement, Kay and Reg Austin, and nephew Reggie Austin.
Ethel was born in Deloraine, Manitoba on August 14th, 1921. As part of a CPR family, she moved with her parents to Binscarth where her father was the Station Agent. She completed her high school in Russell in June of 1939. Ethel married Rodney Clement in 1940 in Glen Ewan, Saskatchewan and raised Frank on her own while Rod was away in the RCAF during the war. She was an active member of the Order of the Royal Purple and the Eastern Star.
Following the death of her husband Rodney, she moved to Winnipeg and then following her marriage to Dick Garrett at Clear Lake in July 1970, moved on to Calgary and later Qualicum Beach, BC, but continued to spend her summers at Clear Lake enjoying the peace and tranquility of the cottage.
Ethel loved a good game of bridge, cribbage or golf, to paint, read and travel, followed fashion trends and loved to watch a movie or have a great political debate. Determined, interested in and protective of her family, devoted to employees and their families, a wonderful hostess and visitor with all who called, the flashing sparkle of her blue eyes - these things will be remembered and cherished.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Trillium Lodge for the care they gave Ethel over the past three years.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ethel's honour on July 29th, 2017 at Knox United Church in Russell, Manitoba. A Memorial Tea will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 9th at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, 747 Jones Street in Qualicum Beach.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Ethel's memory may do so by making a donation in her name to either the Canadian Cancer Society, Donor Services, 565 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4J4 or Heart & Stroke Foundtion, Donations Department, 1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V2.
