George Millar passed from this life on December 8, two days after his 80th birthday.
George grew up in Kelowna, BC the son of Martha and George Millar and brother of Diane and Marilyn and later with his stepfather, Roy Bush and step-sister Penny. He left Kelowna to join the RCAF where during training in Ontario he met and married his wife, Beverly. George and Beverly had three daughters: Susan who was born in Biloxi, Mississippi; Gail and Linda who were born in Comox. George spent most of his career at Comox until his medical release after 15 years of service. He was in the South Pacific servicing aircraft delivering supplies and personnel during the Korean War. George was privileged to visit many parts of the world during his time in the military. As a civilian, he went on to work for the navy, first at Patricia Bay and then at CFMETR (Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Range – Nanoose Bay). He worked for the navy for 23 years where for many years he headed the shop that looked after repair and overhaul of the dunking sonar used with the SeaKing Helicopters.
George was a multi-talented man. He lived by the code of “If it isn’t perfect, it is not good enough.” He was a self-taught perfectionist who renovated his first house; learned the intricacies of computer hard and software through the clubs that preceded home computers; did creative wood working and through it all shared his talents with friends and family. He wrote programs at work (and twice was recognized by the government for “his exceptional and distinguished contribution to the effectiveness of the public service”); as well as creating programs for many churches, businesses, the local Lions group he attended and he was a 50 year member of the Legion prior to going into full time care.
For his gentle manner, mischievous humor, and love of family and friends, he will be sadly missed.
