June 4, 1961- November 27, 2019
After a courageous, quiet and vigilant 38 month battle with brain cancer, Gini Marie Cassidy passed away peacefully November 27, 2019. Gini in her usual spunky way lived with brain cancer for three years ticking off her bucket list items and adding two more as one was stroked off. Mysteriously on the third anniversary of her brain surgery Gini began to slip.
Gini was a bubbly, bright vivacious girl with a kind word and smile for everyone. Her effervescent personality and inner glow was like a magnet to all. She drew them in and you fell in love with the princess.
Gini was born in Calgary, and spent her high school years in Cranbrook active in sports and was Sam Steele Princess in 1978. She truly was a princess and that title was affectionately used by all who knew her.
Gini returned to Calgary after high school and worked for her uncle Terry in a fireplace store before beginning a 19 year career in Calgary with Overwaitea Foods. She also worked for Pro Food Canada in Calgary and then partnered in a Hair and Day Spa in Lethbridge as well as performed the duties of Office Manager and Logistics Coordinator for Mitcon Inc. over the past 15 years.
Gini’s competitive spirit served her well in her new found love of Pickle Ball during her winter visits and stays at Robson Ranch, Arizona over the past 10 years. There her list of friends grew exponentially. Her love of pickle ball was only exceeded by her love for sharing a glass of Prosecco on the patio or deck with friends or a good book. She will be missed by all.
Gini is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Ashley Lacombe ( Calgary), her mother Jo-Anne Yates and step dad Ron Yates (Parksville), her sister Shannen Morrison ( Burlington, ON ), nephews Matthew and Liam, nieces Brittany and Taylor, her soulmate and husband Paul Cassidy (Nanoose Bay) and step sons Ryan Cassidy (Calgary), Troy and Sean Cassidy ( Waterloo, ON), step granddaughter Arianna and her cuddle muffin Cooper.
She was predeceased by her father Donald Joseph Morrison and her brother Garry Morrison.
The family wishes to thank the Oceanside Hospice Society for all their support and caring both in home and her final day at the Trillium Hospice. The family would also like to thank the Yates Memorial Service for their support, care and professionalism in these trying times.
Gini had requested no formal service with exception of a private service to be held in Calgary in January which friends and family will be advised. A small private service will also be held in spring early summer when Gini’s ashes will be spread out in the Strait of Georgia so she can watch all the sunrises and sunsets.
Donations in lieu of flowers go to Oceanside Hospice Society.
