Jack passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Sudbury, ON. Predeceased by his daughter Sheilah Margaret Roy in 2019, his father Harry in 1973 and mother Susie in 1989. Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Roy, his son Thomas Roy (Sheila), grand daughter Haeleigh Roy (Tanner) grandson's Trynn Roy (Mya) and Dayne Roy. He is also survived by his sister's Katherine Paul (Don) and Alice Peltomaki (Harold) of Sudbury, ON.
Upon completion of high school Jack applied to the RCMP where he spent the next 33 years serving at postings in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the Royal College of Defense Studies London, UK retiring at the rank of Superintendent. After retiring from the RCMP in 1986 he began a very successful second career in Real Estate in the LMD and finally Qualicum Beach. Jack cherished his second career in Real Estate and the fellow realtors that he became very close friends with, especially those he had the privilege to work with in Qualicum Beach.
After retiring from the RCMP and while still working as a Realtor Jack enjoyed riding his bicycle, travelling to RCMP winter gatherings in Arizona, taking several cruises, travelling to visit family across Canada, reunions with his Royal College of Defence Studies colleagues in both the UK and USA. One of his most enjoyable activities was the opportunity to reconnect with his 1953 RCMP Training K-8 Troop mates, recently attending their 70th anniversary reunion in Regina in May 2023. Jack was always very community oriented, having been a Rotarian, member of the Masonic Lodge, and very sociable neighbor, extending a helping hand or kind word whenever the opportunity presented itself.
It was often said that if Jack had not chosen a career in policing he would have been a salesman, he could spark up a conversation with just about anyone, anywhere whether he knew them or not and talk about most anything so it was no surprise when he chose Real Estate as his second career. However one aspect of policing remained engrained within him, that of carrying with him at all times a meticulously maintained notebook.
Jack's ashes will be interred with his daughter Sheilah's in the Qualicum Beach Cemetery.
