Sadly, Jack Mackenzie of Nanoose, BC lost his hard fought battle with cancer on February 27, 2015.
Jack leaves behind his beloved wife Marilyn of 52 years, son Ken and wife Ruth and grandchildren Lauryn and Jordyn of Powell River, son Kevin and wife Karla and grandchildren Tanner and Tayler of Port Alberni, brother Larry Mackenzie and wife Wendy, sister Maxine Munsil and husband Bud, sister in laws Eleanor Godwin and Fay Godwin, and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents Ken and Lila Mackenzie, father and mother in law Jim and Lily Godwin, and brother in laws Doug Godwin and Earl Godwin.
Jack was born June 30, 1939 in Port Alberni graduating from Alberni District High School in 1958. Following graduation he went to work with his father and brother in the family logging business. In 1964 he left logging to build his highly successful business Jack’s Tires Sales and Service.
Jack was a fine craftsman and hard worker and he built houses in Port Alberni and Nanoose, cabins and floats in Kildonan with his brother in law Doug and renovated a vacation home in Palm Springs.
He was a member of sea cadets as a young man, leader of the Second Arrowsmith Boy Scouts and Ventures and active member of the Power and Sail Squadron, Schooner Cove Yacht Club and Port Alberni Curling Club.
Jack loved the outdoors. If he couldn’t be camping, fishing, riding his quad,or hunting he would be planning for his next trip. Jack self proclaimed himself the unluckiest participant in the annual moose draws but despite that he never missed a trip with friends or family and trained many upcoming moose hunters.
Jack spent many fun and adventure filled summers and rainy weekends in Kildonan with family. Later on he cruised Desolation Sound in the Calypso II with close friends and family. Recently he made Palm Springs his second home with the completion of his vacation home renovation.
A gathering to celebrate Jack’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday March 7, 2015 at the Best Western Barclay Hotel, Port Alberni. Bring your memories and stories to share with Jack’s friends and family.
