Aug 10, 1951 – Aug 21, 2024
Lynn Morawetz, known only as Gloria to those that did not know her well - left this world as she lived it - on her own terms – the morning of August 21, 2024.
She did so while holding the hands of her daughters and, hopefully, knowing that she was loved.
English at heart (Beans and Toast, anyone?) Lynn was born and raised in Sidney on Vancouver Island to Cecil Anderson and Elsie Anderson (Freeman). Lynn was predeceased in April 2024 by the love of her life, Fred Morawetz whom she met thanks to a particularly rousing night at the Gibson Bowladrome, bowling alley in Victoria BC.
Married June 3, 1972 Lynn and Fred spent 52 years together. Starting at the little house on third street in Sidney BC, they welcomed their first child Randal Morawetz in 1974. In 1980, in addition to caring for dozens of horses (and acres) at Greenbelt Stables, they welcomed their second child Anna Mayrhofer into the fold. Just to spice things up a little this was followed by a move to Westlock Alberta where in 1984 they welcomed their second daughter Korina Simm to the family.
In 1985 they finally had enough of Alberta winters and made their way back home to Sunny Sidney by the sea. In 1991 they picked up and moved the family to their ideal vacation spot, Parksville British Columbia, and opened Wondercolor Decorating center.
A worker to the core, what a variety of careers Lynn had! Baker, Stable operator, Candy store owner, Radio Advertising, KFC manager, Sole proprietor, Bartender, and bowling alley clerk, more I am sure – but none longer than the almost 3 decades she spent grooming youth into well oiled pizza making machines at various Vancouver Island Pizza Huts. Never was a Pizza Hut more sharply run, its racks cleaner or its toppings fresher than under mom’s watchful gaze!
Mid life mom was an active member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3922 Ladies Auxiliary, in Parksville, BC. You would often find her at the clubhouse, playing darts and cribbage, or pouring beverages and running fundraising events – often with Korina in tow beating those adults at Cribbage!
Later in life, and under the Pizza Hut umbrella mom became an active supporter of JDRF (Juvenile diabetes research foundation), ironically shortly after she began fundraising for this, her granddaughter was diagnosed with Type one Diabetes and from then on you could find both Mom and Dad at JDRF walks and fundraising events.
Christmas will forever pale in comparison to the holiday at Grandma's house. No Candy drawer will ever have such appeal. We should have insisted she teach us to make petit fours! We should have decorated more cakes and played more cards. We should have sent her on more fishing charters and done more boating adventures. She loved to reel in a catch!
Lynn will be missed most deeply by her son, Randy (Alana) and daughters Anna (Jake) and Korina (Ben). Grandchildren Micheal, Angela, Brandon (Mattea), Derek, Taeya, Chloe, William, James and George, Ryan (Sam), Kaitlyn (Amanda), Dillon and Thea and Great Grandchildren Alec, Jonathan, Sonja, Rowen, Micah, Logan, Remy, Avery, Evan, Madison, Sydney, Grace, Caleb and Wyatt; and remembered fondly in the hearts of her siblings, Shirley, Dennis, Jackie, Gordon (deceased) and Doug as well as her plethora of Nieces and Nephews around the globe far too many to list.
Mom – your strength, work ethic, and affinity for Diet Pepsi remain with us. Every holiday will be a reminder and each time we see a McDonalds toy we will think of you.
At her request no formal service will be held, but a gathering will take place at the upstairs at Quality foods on Sunday October 13, 2024 from 1-6 PM. We would love for you to join us for a glass of wine! A Chinese Food Buffet will be served at 3:30 pm. Please contact the family for additional information if required.
In lieu of flowers the family would accept donations towards a beachside memorial bench, which they will have commemorating both Lynn and Fred given the proximity with which they left this world. Donations can be made via e-transfer to [email protected]
Mom – you are with Dad - We love you.
Until we meet again.
