Gordon was a truly amazing man and a good friend of mine. I just tried to call him and of course got no answer, so I googled his name and found that he has passed. 13 days after I had wished him a happy birthday. Gordon and I had many many great times, and he's always been there for me. He even asked me to marry him 7 times and then told me there wasn't going to be an 8th time. I replied with, "good because I'm tired of saying no". We went gambling in Port Angeles because he signed us up for a poker tournament and closed Delany's bar in PA with a standing ovation for singing "war pigs" by Black Sabbath. Of course Gordon didn't know the words to the song, so he just blurted out, "yah war pigs", throughout the entire song. It was hilarious. He bought me a car on his credit card when my car broke down, he used his air miles to get me to Moncton for a visit to see my daughter who was sick and he helped me out so much and forgave me when I was being an idiot and not doing well because of drugs. When I got a settlement from ICBC and paid him for all the things he'd done for me over the last 20 years he said he had faith in humanity again... and me! This meant the world to me. When he moved to Courtenay I stayed in touch with him and sent him a beautiful porcelain queen Anne lighter to add to his collection and never forgot his birthday on May 3rd or to call him at or around Christmas to see what family members he was with. He was so proud of all of his children and always bragged about Aura's jobs or the title she held at the job's she worked at. And of course he was always talking about how his other children were retired and doing well. There's one more memory that may or may not be appropriate for this sharing page, however it's a memory that shows his sense of humour. He once was at a poker game with his doctor at the union club and the doctor had mentioned that Gord must poop gold because he was so lucky.  He had to then provide a stool sample not long after that game and Gordon drank this cognac that had gold flakes in it so that when he handed in his sample it actually had gold in it. He laughed so hard after we dropped off the sample that he had to get me to drive him home. He was busting a gut over that one and he had to control his laughter while handing the sample to the front desk and act serious. This proved to be difficult for him, but he did it. He also gave to Timmy's Telethon every year and was disappointed when the Army and Navy shut down. He was there for me when my father died and the last time he asked me to marry him was when my son was almost 2 years old (he's turning 15 next April) and he said that he'd take care of us and had no problem with helping me become a better person. He'd call me his Plato and he'd say, "splat" as he made a gesture that he was throwing clay at me and he'd say that he was molding me to become a woman.
I'm  truly going to miss him and I've been crying all morning after finding out that he's passed. I was going to keep the tradition going that him and I had and that's birthday's and Christmas calls. . . And now I don't have that anymore, but I do have many many great memories and I am grateful that I'm  the one person he forgave for my rotten choices and that I was able to pay back a debt that gave him faith in humanity again... and me! I'm sorry for all of us and the loss of such a fantastic man. There will never be another man like Gordon and I'm really glad that I had all that time with him. I still have a few memorabilia items that he has given to me over the years and some greeting/ birthday cards that he gave me, jewelry that he gave me and even napkins that look like $100 US Bill's and his old humourous "business card" that he had made up to give to people he met. I'm sorry for our loss and I understand that with covid, there's no services, but please, when the pandemic is over and it's all safe again, please let me know when his service will be because I would like to bring some of the items to the service, a couple of photos and have the opportunity to say farewell to my best friend, best cook, best company and best companion ever!!!

Gord was my Company Commander in 2 RCR in 1964. A very experienced leader and teacher and a great mentor. Served with him later in Halifax (I was in Moncton) where he once again provided sound advice and excellent support to our administrative needs. A sound soldier, good companion and proven leader. RIP, old friend.

We were very saddened to hear of Gordpa's passing. He will be missed in the Stewart household and will always consider him, family. Our condolences on your loss.
