Mohinder was born in India in the Village of Sherpur, Punjab. Although he only had a grade four formal education, he was able to quickly gain skills and the necessary training to work with tools and vehicles, leading to a very successful career in mechanics. Very early in his life he moved to Fiji Islands where he worked for the Public Works Department as a mechanic in Savu Savu, Fiji. He lived there with his wife, Parkash, and daughter, Harbans. It was while there that their first son, Mike, was born. They reunited with their eldest daughter, Naseeb, who had been living in Tamavua - Suva, with his parents before coming to Canada.
In July 1964, he moved to Canada with his wife and three children - Naseeb, Harbans and Mike. While looking for work, he found himself in Rossland, BC where his son, Robert (Bob) was born. He found employment with the Province of BC with The Department of Highways and moved to New Denver as the shop Mechanic. His work transferred him to Terrace, to the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii ) and eventually to Prince George. In 1988, he retired and moved to Nanaimo where he remained for the rest of his life.
He is survived by his four children, Naseeb (Cliff). Harbans (Mahendra), Mike and Bob (Tammy). He also has seven grandchildren (Praneil, Amrit, Cliff Jr., Ann, Mark, Lauren and Landon) and was blessed with many great grandchildren (Arjan, Anaiya, Ashley and her children, Cole, Tyler & Jenna).
If you knew Mohinder, you knew a man who loved his family deeply, always had great wisdom to share, was honest and generous, who lived a life of integrity, loved to go the Sikh Temple where he was highly respected and who loved to tell a joke and or share a story from his days in India and Fiji. Your life was better if you got to spend time with Mohinder.
After 95 years of good health, he was blessed to pass away peacefully surrounded and supported by his family.
