Yum spent many years as an auto mechanic. Working for many, many years repairing vehicles, and working off and on at Midas Mufflers, and other auto businesses…. And then disassembling vehicles at his current job at Sherwoods Auto Parts. Many of our people knew to find him there!! Yum was a relative and friend to MANY. He was very outgoing and known very well in the Alberni Valley. He grew up with the Tseshaht and Hupacasath members – and has many friends throughout these communities. He never lost his roots of Ahousaht, with MANY connections throughout the Nuu-chah-nulth Territories.
In the late 1980s, he was diagnosed with Leukemia – receiving a successful bone marrow transplant from bro Howard. He fought this disease and was in remission for many years. Earlier this year, he suffered a stroke, while at work, and was off work for a couple months. Just recently, he found out he had other medical issues that needed attention; and, therefore, went in for exploratory surgery on Tuesday July 9th. He fought the battle! Our brother was nothing but strong, always!
