Pat was born in Victoria and attended private school there. She was very proud to be named as Princess to Miss Nanaimo in her graduating year of 1957, and never really did abdicate that title as she always carried herself with exquisite style, dignity and grace. She stood out in a crowd with her warm presence, infectious laugh, and sincere compassion toward others.
After having a daughter in 1959, Pat broke the record in 1962 for having the heaviest (+8lbs each) set of twins born in Nanaimo General. Settling in Port Alberni in 1967, she raised her family, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and enjoyed a career as a clerk with the Pulp Mill.
After retiring in 1999, she moved back to Victoria for a few years before relocating to Parksville in 2005. Her green thumb of gardening was inherited from her famous grandmother, Cougar Annie. She had a deep love of God, nature, animals, antiques, and was a natural artist. Pat was also a self-taught chef, and her talents at baking will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Margaret; brother, George; and two past husbands. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her partner, Roger Garden; daughter, Brenda (Al); sons, Mur and Blair; grandchildren Breana, Kaitlynn, and Teagan; nieces: Glenda, Laurie (Steve); nephews Derrick and Chris (Paula); and the many close friends.
Thank you to the nurses and staff at Stanford Place Care facility for the excellent care, kindness, and compassion given to Pat during her stay there.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, 138 West Hoylake Road in Qualicum Beach, BC.
