Beloved father of Mark, Michelle (Jay), Matthew (deceased) and Mikyla (Alex). Much loved Grandpa to Trinity, Jessie, Zoë and Elena. Elder brother to Elizabeth, Veronica and Marietta.
Peter was born August 31, 1945 in Ryde, Isle of Wight in England. At six months he went to India to join his father in the British Indian Army. After Indian Independence in 1947, they moved to then Rhodesia. Peter attended St. George's College in Salisbury as a boarder from the age of eight. After the Congo uprisings in 1960, the family relocated to Bournemouth, England. He attended St. Peter’s Boys School there until going to the University of Bristol, graduating as a mechanical engineer in 1967 and immigrated to Canada. He married his high school sweetheart in 1969 and lived in Calgary for 32 years. He worked as an engineer in the oil and gas industry - specializing in gas compressors.
He retired to Qualicum Beach in 2002 and spent 23 years as an “Island Boy” thoroughly enjoying his retirement. He played all his games, drove each winter to the Baja to windsurf and took many wonderful vacations to visit family and friends abroad.
Peter was a total “jock” all his life. First rugby, then squash, windsurfing and always biking. He excelled in every sport. He worked hard and played hard every minute of the day. He had a passion for cars all his life and still had his favourite “E-type” which he had owned for 50 years. He spent 2,000 hours rebuilding it.
He was a man of utmost integrity and humility, never boasting about his achievements. He was honourable, honest, trustworthy and totally dependable. He was extremely kind and thoughtful. My husband was a real gentleman to me and everyone else. He loved his biking group and rode 50 km three times per week, come rain or shine.
Peter battled melanoma two years ago and was cured with immunotherapy. However, a side effect greatly increased his arthritis and eventually destroyed his hip. It was replaced this January and he worked tirelessly to regain his strength and ability to ride again. Two weeks before his death, he was so happy because he was back riding as well as he did three years ago. He died riding with the “top dogs” again.
Peter, your everlasting love shall help me in my grief and sustain me always. Thank-you for the wonderful life we shared together.
