Reuben will be forever remembered for his deep love for his beautiful wife Joan, of 61 years, his family and close friends.
He was always cheerful, kind, caring and a great encourager to all who knew him. He had a great love for music which was part of his family heritage. He loved getting together with his family for a time of singing and playing his guitar. He was also a member of the Messenger Quarter at one time, led the worship team at the Nanoose Evangelical Church for many years, and was guest soloist at many events. He took a great interest in cars and enjoyed going to all the classic car shows with his family.
Reuben spent most of his working years in the retail business. He and Joan loved browsing thrift stores and had a great knowledge of antiques which led them to opening their own Antique and Second-hand Store which they ran for several years. After they decided to close their business Reuben went on to work for Achie Johnson Plumbing and Heating and later worked for the Salvation Army until his retirement. Reuben was always a very loyal employee, honest and friendly to everyone he met and served.
After a brief time spent at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he suffered from multiple strokes, he passed on to glory leaving behind his loving wife Joan, daughters Shelley (Brian) Angie (Guy), two sons Ken, Mike (Amanda) 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren plus 1 on the way, as well as several family members in Kelowna, the lower mainland and on Vancouver Island. He will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of all those who knew him; till we meet again.
The family would like to thank all the kind doctors and nurses who tended to him for their excellent care.
A service will be held at the Departure Bay Church located at 3510 Departure Bay Road, Nanaimo on May 2, 2026 between 2-4pm.
Online condolences and memories may be shared on the Dignity Memorial Website.
