Jim passed away peacefully in Echo Village on Monday, July 29, 2013 with family at his side.
Jim was predeceased by his brother Don, sisters Mary & Joan, daughter Robbyn in 2011 and is survived by his loving wife Melva, his son Richard (Anita), grandchildren Don (Kelly), Shaun (Chelsea), Kallan (Tamara) Clark, & Kelli Easton, and his great grandchildren Richard & Jordan and his sister Eleanor Veitch.
Jim was born in Birkenhead, England. Early in his life the family moved to BC, finally settling in Port Alberni. He joined the British Army in October 1939. In January 1944, he joined the Long Range Desert Group as a member of the elite Popski’s Private Army as one of only 2 Canadians in the group. This was part of the 8th Army which saw duty in North Africa and Italy until the end of WWII.
Jim worked at the Alberni Pulp and Paper mill until his retirement in 1984. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served as a local school board trustee for many years.

There will be no service as per Jim’s request. Cremation has taken place. No flowers by request, but if desired a donation may be made in Jim’s name to the charity of your choice.
