With sadness we announce Bob’s passing on Friday, October 16, 2015. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 65 years, Merle; daughter, Lynn (Peter) Stary; grandchildren, Lisa and Thomas Stary; and step-grandson Sam Galpin. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne.
Bob was born in Edmonton, Alberta on December 28, 1926 to Avis and Colvin Hamly. As a young man he took to the skies, first as a glider pilot, then flying small power planes and finally building a plane with a couple of friends.
Beginning his working life in his family’s printing business, Bob took on a variety of jobs. However, he and Merle had always wanted to run their own business and in 1964 moved their family to Vancouver, BC, where they started a tool rental company. As their first business grew, they added a tableware rental company and succeeded with both.
In 1996, Bob and Merle retired to Qualicum Beach where they were active with the Probus Club and volunteered with COPS (Citizens on Patrol).
Bob was a thoughtful person, with a dry but gentle sense of humour. He was always ready to help when he saw a need, and enjoyed the many friends he made in the Oceanside area.
A Celebration of Life was held in Bob's honour at his home in Qualicum Beach. In lieu of flowers, please consider honouring Bob’s memory by making a donation in his name to the charity of your choice.
