Ron was the youngest of 6 children born to the union of Mike and Anastasia Halyk. He had fond memories of growing up and working on the family farm. There were many good stories of homemade sausages, cream, perogies, pranks and jokes along with experiences with beloved friends and family in rural Saskatchewan.
With a strong mechanical awareness and love for building and engines, he was skillful in many trades. Ron was the youngest to drive the school bus in the area. He worked in the freight sheds of Melville, and went onto become a locomotive mechanic in Winnipeg. After completion of school, he married and moved to Regina where his 2 daughters were born. Ron worked with CN rail as a mechanic while pursuing many other endeavors.
In 1980 Ron and his family moved to the Nimpkish Valley, Vancouver Island. He continued to work on locomotive engines for several years, then making the Oceanside area his home. Incorporating his love for the outdoors, horticulture design and coffee breaks, he established a successful business that operated in the Oceanside area for 34 years.
You could often find Ron tinkering in the garage, he enjoyed sharing his skills with his girls and grandchildren. Always one for a good joke, Ron loved to laugh, be out on the water, or in the forest. He was a master of gardening, and enjoyed tending to his fruit trees, rose's and rhododendron's. His wonderful spirit, joy and talents will be missed.
