
1929 – 2013
Stanley passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on February 13, 2013 at the age of 83.
He was predeceased by his father Hartley, his mother Janey and grandson Stanley Thomas Stanbridge – “Tommy” and is survived by Eleanor, his loving wife, companion and best friend of 63 years. They were married on New Year’s Eve, 1949; and lovingly remembered by children Jane Pfannenschmidt (Bob), Dr. Stanley Stanbridge (Missy), Steven Stanbridge (Joelle), 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and his brother Hartley Stanbridge (Marge).
Stanley was born at the Vancouver General Hospital on March 06, 1929. He was a quick learner and finished school in Grade 8. After a few years working for others in the trucking industry, he and his partner Hughie Smith started Inter-City Express (1955) Ltd. Later they bought Overland Freight Lines and British Pacific Freight Lines. Stanley retired in Vancouver, BC in 1972.
Stanley enjoyed everything with wheels, Harley’s, vintage vehicles, and new cars. He especially enjoyed RV’ing. His last and favourite RV was his MCI bus motorcoach conversion. He and Eleanor travelled around North America and spent 28 winters with their many wonderful friends in Mazatlan, Mexico. In 2006 Stanley and Eleanor sold their much beloved bus, the “ME TOO” and settled in Port Alberni.
Eleanor and their children have reminisced together and toasted Stanley at his favourite dining spot.
