Vern passed away at Arrowsmith Lodge in Parksville, BC, early Christmas morning. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice, and his children Darin, Tracy, Terry and Lisa; their spouses; 4 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. His career of 38 years with the Royal Bank took the family to numerous branches in Manitoba, retiring in 1993. Vern was very much involved in the various communities, Lions Club, skating, hockey, camping in the Whiteshell area, teaching hunter safety, boating and taking his children to their various interests. He was also a volunteer ambulance driver for 11 years. In 1998, they came out to Vancouver Island for 4 winters, then decided to make it their permanent home. Vern became president of Pgosa, Panter Hockey and the Parksville Newcomers Club. He took part in both senior hockey and senior ball, taught boating safety and refereed hockey games at the local arenas. He enjoyed several cruises, camping, card games and made many wonderful friends. Vern will be remembered for his quiet, patient and friendly nature.

There will be a service for Vern at St. Columba Presbyterian Church on Wembly Road, on Thursday January 11th, at 2PM.
