It is with great sadness that we share that Warren went home to the Lord on March 15th. Warren was born on June 7th, 1924 to parents Mary and William. He grew up on his family’s farm in Raddison Saskatchewan. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Port Alberni to find work. Here he met and married the love of his life Anne Burley in 1946. Their eldest son Paul was born the following year, and their son Michael 3 years later.
Warren helped prepare the ground where the the Pulp Mill would be built. He had to watch for live ammunition shells. From there he went to the mill at Central Lake and then worked at the Alberni Plywoods for 43 years. There he made a great many friends and was known as a very hard worker. He was proud of the fact that he only took two sick days in all of the time he worked there.
Warren’s greatest love was spending time with his family. He spent countless days with family camping at Rathtrevor Beach and Little Qualicum Falls. He loved being outdoors and was very active. Even when home, he could be found mowing lawns for not only himself but his neighbours as well. He was very generous with his time and was always there to assist with anyone who needed help.
Warren retired from work to care for Anne when she became ill. He was a great caregiver. He made sure to take her on a trip across Canada before she passed away two years later. He was lost without her, but took on the roll of being the full time yard and garden worker for his son Michael and daughter-in-law Carol. Wednesday nights became a highlight for him. He enjoyed wing night at the pub with his sons and having them and friends over to his place for what his family dubbed the “bad boys social club”. He loved engaging anyone in a game of cards or crib, family dinners and barbecues.
He would try almost anything that revolved around family, which included his much beloved hunting trips with Anne, Paul, Michael and Eric. He continued to hunt until he was 89 years old. He even participated in a family tube trip down the river at the age of 85. He truly was an amazing man, with the heart of a gentleman and a teasing personality.
Warren lived in his family home until he was ninety-three, when he moved to Fir Park Village. He quickly adapted to his new home and became very fond of all of the people who worked and lived there. He and his family were very grateful for the wonderful care he received there.
Warren was predeceased by his wife Anne, parents, brothers Jack and Bob.
He is survived by beloved his sons, Paul (Val), Michael (Carol), grandchildren Debbie (Vince), Melanie (Scott), Bobby, Melissa, Marcy, Eric (Vanessa) and Emeila. Warren left behind 10 great grandchildren that he treasured, his sister June Krahn and many nieces, nephews and friends.. He will be so very missed by all.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wendy Johnson, all of his wonderful Nurses, Caregivers and Cafeteria staff at Fir Park Village.
