in the crucible of adversity
And your mettle has been tested by it's flames,
When you dedicated your life
To keeping others safe from harm,
Then eternity waits for you
with a hero's welcome
Bill leaves behind an incredible legacy having won a lifetime achievement award for his work in civil and human rights in both Canada and the US. As the long-time, former Executive Director of Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, Bill had a distinct gift and energizing capacity to connect with diverse communities, inspire and empower them to participate as a collective. He was an agent of change, a foot soldier for justice, who imagined a better world for all of us. He was principled, courageous, honest, charismatic and far too ahead of his time. The professor, the protector, the sage, but most of all our anchor.
He is preceded in his heavenly journey by his wife Kathleen Duncan (nee O'connor), his daughters Rachel Brooks, Ifoma Duncan, Debbie Duncan and grandson William E. Duncan IV. He leaves behind daughters Colleen Duncan, Suzanne Duncan and his son, William E. Duncan III, son-In-law Greg Brooks, grand-daughters Madelene & Joyce, great-grandson Joshua and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A special thank you to Bishop Gary Gordon, Victoria Diocese and the Ascension parish family. A virtual memorial is being planned in the near future. For details email [email protected]. Flowers & memorials may be sent to the Duncan’s at 528 Hall Rd, Qualicum Beach, BC,V9K 1B7 or in lieu thereof, donations to the Oceanside Hospice Society.
