Charles Provost was born October 12, 1931, to Lawrence & Clothilde (Guillotte) Provost in Jeanerette Louisiana. He was the oldest of two boys, big brother to Roy. He loved spending time with his mother in the kitchen learning to cook. And all of us know what a good cook he was! His childhood years were spent in Jeanerette till he left to become a Marine and serve his country in Korea.
Charles met the love of his life on a blind date on December 24, 1951, and he would always say he has been blind ever since! The two were married while Charles was on leave August 10, 1952. The twins, Barney & Barry were born while the young couple was stationed in Oceanside California. They would go on to have Charlotte, Brenda & Chuck to complete their family. They celebrated 71 years of marriage last August.
Charles joined the Marines in January 1951 and served until January 1954. While in bootcamp, the Drill Sergeant confiscated the Cracker Jacks that his mother had sent him. In Korea, he got teased because of being a Momma’s Boy! Helen & Charles settled back in Jeanerette after his discharge from the Marines.
Charles committed his life to Jesus in the early 1970’s. Having made a move to Deer Park, Texas, Bryan Morrison recognized the call on his life right away. Charles preached his first of many sermons at St Nicholas Center in Houston, Texas.
Cooking was his hobby. We all know he cooked a mean pot of meatballs and spaghetti. Another meal he enjoyed cooking was gumbo, any flavor. Not just limited to everyday items, he would serve up a stew with squirrel or rabbit also.
Charles is survived by his wife Helen of 71 years and their children Barney (Carol), Barry (Donna), Charlotte, Brenda (Richard), Chuck (Sandra).
