Born in Addington, OK, Don was one of five children of David and Edna (Jernigan) Willoughby. The family lived in Oklahoma. Don met and married Oleta Walker in 1960. They settled in Oklahoma City with their two sons. Soon afterwards, Don’s job moved to Houston, TX so the family moved.
In East Houston, Don and Oleta found a good church community, Greens Bayou Assembly of God and Fellowship of the Nations and settled close to the church. He was a hardworking man providing for his family, Don served at the church as an Usher. Members and visitors walking into the church were welcomed by a giant man with a heart of gold. It’s also well-known that he kept candy in his pockets for the kids. He loved to read and played an occasional game of golf with his friend. He especially enjoyed listening to good ole Southern Gospel songs.
Preceded in death by parents, David and Edna Willoughby, sisters: Sylvia (Ondrey) and Evleyn (Walker). Don is survived by his wife, Oleta (Walker), sons: Phil (Teresa), Michael (Dianne) Willoughby, Gary (Rita), sisters: Naomi Smith, Mildred Tigert, and MaryBeth Munson; grandchildren: Durell, Chris, Micah, Kailee, Neal, Luke, Jana, Joseph, CyCy; great grandchildren: Sophia, Olivia, Myah, Zaine, Tina, Mark, Dave; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
