Edna Cordero Wheeless, born on September 02, 1955 in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines took her last breath on February 08, 2025 next to her beloved husband Mark T. Wheeless and dear son, Joshua L. Wheeless in Houston, Texas. She was physically taken away by an unexpected severe systemic drug reaction syndrome. She bravely fought the syndrome with her loved ones but the Lord has the best plan for her.
In the Philippines, Edna’s profession was an educator. She was a high school teacher at Holy Family Academy, in Angeles City and was the Filipino Department Coordinator when she left the school. She was described by her students as strict yet funny and was envied for having beautiful legs :). Her students fondly called her “Binibini”, a Filipino word for miss. After more than 10 years of teaching, she had to quit for the next chapter of her life. It’s worth mentioning that she developed real life-long friendships with her co-teachers, nuns and other staff members.
In 1992, Edna immigrated to the United States to build a life with her husband, Mark. She first flew to California to see her relatives, then flew to Houston, Texas to continue her love story with Mark. Since then and until her last breath and last beat of her heart, she was with Mark and their son, Joshua, in Houston.
Edna’s dream as a child was to be a nurse. Due to financial reasons, she was not able to fulfill this dream after high school. However, things turned around in Houston, Texas. With hard work, perseverance, intelligence, and support from her husband, Edna pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She went to Nursing school when Joshua was about 10 years old. Edna managed to handle school work, wife and mom duties all at the same time. She fulfilled her dream; she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 2003 and worked for Bayshore Hospital for over 20 years! She retired from Bayshore in 2021.
Outside work and during retirement, Edna found joy in gardening and in traveling. Even when she was sick at the hospital, she would ask about her plants. She was worried for her plants as the weather in Houston at that time was freezing cold.
Edna was a caring and loving person. Hence, the desire of becoming a nurse while living in a developing country. She loved being a nurse. She truly cared for her patients. Edna developed genuine friendships wherever she went. She touched the hearts of so many people. She had a contaminating laugh, a high-pitched excitement in her voice and an infectious joy. She brought energy and fun in parties. Edna leaves behind a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
May Edna’s memory and lively spirit bring us all comfort in her physical absence. May we carry forth her legacy of a well-lived and God-fearing life. During her last moments of being conscious, she called the name of the Almighty and repented for her sins. Fly high, Edna and stay blissful. We love you dearly. We are thankful for everything that you have given us.
