She was born in Runge, Texas on August 18, 1931, to Mr. Inocencio Salinas and Mrs. María Bosque Salinas. The Salinas family settled in Tahoka, Texas when Guadalupe was 9 years. Old. She grew up with four brothers and three sisters, a total of eight. Lupita was a Tom boy, she played with a slingshot to hunt for birds and took on playing marbles with other kids. She picked up the accordion and learned how to play while they sang folks songs in the evening. She worked early on in life to help with a large family by picking cotton. In that summer she ran throughout the pea-green fields covering the plains. As a young lady she found the love of sewing, making dresses for herself, and making conformation dresses for her nieces. Fashion was her art; She would walk to the downtown store and glance through the window with a fixed gaze at a mannequin. She could make that dress in the window without a pattern.
My father and Mother would soon move to Houston where later our mom worked in the school cafeteria.
From there our mom went to Houston’s Hospital laundry distribution center. The last career before retiring was with M.D. Anderson housekeeping dept. and there, she was asked to be a translator from English to Spanish for the hospital.
Ms. Lupita was married to Mr. Lozano Davila during her late years. She and her husband had moved to Freeport, Texas where she enjoyed fishing with her son junior. In the summer she took her grandsons to the beach. Her final years she spent in Pasadena Texas as a widow taking care of her grandchildren. A visit to the hospital required a recovery stay for rehab at Pasadena Post Acute where she spent eight in half months. She met so many friends, residents, kitchen staff, housekeeping, CNA’s and of course the nurses. In the 1st week of February our mom received care from Resolutions Hospice. The family wants to express their gratitude for everyone involved in her care.
