Rudy was born on May 15, 1934, in Alco, Louisiana, to Leonard and Docia Blackwell Faulkner.
He graduated from Leesville High School in 1952, where he was elected Mr. LHS and Best All Around. He proudly played tackle for the Leesville Wampus Cats football team.
After graduation, Rudy married the love of his life, Norma Chance, on Valentine's Day. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful life together. Rudy owned and operated a Skelly Service Station and repair shop alongside his father-in-law, John Chance, in Leesville for many years.
In 1970, Rudy moved his family to Houston, where he worked at the Astrodome, keeping the scooters running for rodeos and other events. He later began a career with Harris County Precinct 2, serving as Superintendent of the Genoa Red Bluff Camp for more than 25 years before retiring in 1997.
Rudy loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado, Arkansas, Mexico, and Canada, returning home with stories—and often a deer, elk, quail, and even a bear from Canada.
Some of Rudy's happiest years were spent at the family's deer lease in the Georgetown, Texas, Hill Country. Countless memories were made there with his grandsons, family, and friends. More than anything, Rudy treasured his family, who brought him his greatest joy.
Rudy is survived by his daughter, Barbara Hamaker, and son-in-law, Rodney Hamaker; grandsons Dustin (Lily), Josh (Alyssa), Cory (Jordan) Hamaker, and Ryan (Andrea) and Reid (Alexis) Faulkner; great-grandchildren Brendin, Bryce, Barrett, Madlyn, Katlyn, Travis, Isabella, and Julian; nieces Pam Goddard, Vicky Beard, and Cathy Girard; and cousin Karen Mace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Docia Blackwell Faulkner; his brothers, Wayne, Porter, and Grady Faulkner; his sister, Elwanda Cupit; his son, John Faulkner; and his beloved wife of 65 years, Norma.
Though he will be deeply missed, Rudy's legacy lives on in the family he loved so fiercely and in the countless memories they will cherish forever.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Hamaker, Josh Hamaker, Cory Hamaker, Ryan Faulkner, Reid Faulkner, and Brendin Hamaker.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 17, at 9:00 a.m. at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Dr. Ron Lyles.
A committal service will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America or South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Signature Home Health, Ascend Hospice, and devoted caregivers Helen Ortiz and Barbara Alvarez for the compassionate care they provided Rudy.
