She is also survived by her siblings Orvetta Grayson, Murry Yates, Donna Upshaw and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her father, Benard Elzner Yates and mother, Mae Rose Elizabeth Yates; siblings James and John Yates, Ray Yates, Bonnie Yates Garrison, Glenn Yates, and Darryl Yates; father-in-law, Joe Martin and mother-in-law, Faye Martin.
Janice was a godly woman, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was also known as Gigi and Jan to those who loved her. Since her passing those who knew her have described her as being kind, sweet, nurturing, a good friend, gracious, a bright light, beautiful inside and out, a true saint of God, someone who brought love and joy to those around her, a giver, the epitome of what a lady should be, someone who walked with God each and every day, a second mom and a second grandmother to many, someone who was all and more. Janice never met a stranger and made friends with everyone she met and made them feel loved. For this reason, she was loved by many.
Janice’s church heritage was with the Assemblies of God. From the time of being a little girl, Janice loved church. She always sang in church and wrote many songs that expressed her love, devotion, and faith in the God she served. She served as a Sunday School teacher and taught children’s church for many of her younger years. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, shopping, doing crafts, cooking, had a green thumb for her flowers that she enjoyed, had a sense for style, and had a beautiful eye for decorating her home. She also enjoyed making jewelry and buying jewelry. She enjoyed having a good time and being with family and friends.
Having all of the family together always filled her heart with great joy. Once the kids were getting grown and going in different directions, she would rise early on Sunday mornings to prepare lunch for the family to enjoy together after church. She took every opportunity she had to spend with her kids and grandkids who gave her the deepest of joy and made her so very proud. We will miss her hugs, love and laughter. Until we meet again, we will carry on the legacy of love and faith that she encouraged in us.
