

“Chuy” was born on May 5,1929 to Juan and Sofia (Sanchez) Zavala in Victoria, Texas. He was raised in Robstown, Texas where he later met and married his wife of 66 years, Manuela (Martinez) Zavala, on August 14,1950. Together they raised nine children and in the late 1960s relocated to Houston, Texas where he lived out the rest of his life. He was a man who was always on the go, and when he wasn’t, you could catch him watching his “cowboys” on the television or listening to music on his “vitrola.” The countless memories he created will live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
He is survived by his wife, Manuela (Martinez) Zavala and nine children, Jesus “Jesse” Zavala Jr. and wife Cynthia, George Zavala and wife Bertilia, Dimas Zavala, James Zavala, Cecilia Lopez, Senaida Napolez, Consuelo Zavala, Mark Zavala and wife Sandra, and Leandro Zavala and wife Elodia; brothers, Cristoval Huerta, Jose Huerta, Domingo Huerta; sisters Lupe Peña and Anastacia Yepez; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Jesus D. Zavala is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Zavala and Sofia Huerta, ten siblings, and son-in-law Abel Lopez.
A viewing will be held on Friday at 5pm with a rosary to follow at 7pm at Funeraria del Angel in Pasadena, Texas. Services will be held on Saturday at 12pm at Funeraria del Angel in Pasadena, Texas with the interment to follow at 2pm at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
