Phat Boi was, in every sense, larger than life—someone whose presence could fill a room and whose humor could lighten it. He had a way of telling it straight, with an honesty that never needed polishing, and a loyalty that people could count on. Devoted to those he loved and deeply beloved in return, he leaves behind a circle of family and friends who will miss his voice, his laugh, and the unmistakable energy he brought with him.
An avid gamer, Phat Boi loved his Xbox and the friendships he built throughout his game life. His crew was known as the “Heavy Hitters,” and the name fit—because when he showed up, it meant something. Whether it was the camaraderie, the competition, or simply the joy of connecting, his devotion to his people shone through in the way he played and the way he showed up for others.
He is survived by his mother, Irma Garza Cuellar; his daughter, Jazmine Garza; his sister, Andrea Brown and husband Robert; his brothers, David Gamez and Adam Garza; his grandfathers, Joe Garza, Sr., and the late Luis Cortez, Sr.; his grandmothers, Olga Garza and Nonnie Cortez; his father, the late Luis Cortez, Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.
