A longtime resident of La Porte, TX he was born July 30, 1936 to Helen Marie and John Vernon Steelman in Hattiesburg, MS. He was the first born of five siblings and joined them all in Heaven, where he also reunited with his daughter, Linda Ann Weiss.
After high school. He joined the US NAVY and served during the Korean War. As an Avionics Tech, he served his country on four different Air Craft Carriers. He regained his land legs at NAFAC in Atlantic City, NJ, and worked there with The FAA for 18 years.
John is survived by Beatrice Brogan Steelman, his wife of 46 years; Nancy Lynn Henderson, his daughter of Oaklyn, NJ; Neil Henderson, his grandson, of Mays Landing, NJ; and granddaughters Rachael Weiss, and Misty Henderson of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ. He was the proud great grandfather of Stephen Henderson, also of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ. He left many nieces, nephews, and cousins, too many to mention here, but always in our hearts.
I would like to thank Patricia Brogan Baker, his Sister-in-Law, for her loving dedication to his daily care, mental health, and memory support, during his final years...and the
Home Based Primary Care Team @Michael Debakey VAMC, in Houston Texas, for the careful and caring attention given to John and his family...they helped make his final years happier and productive.
"Cyndi Woo", his chiweenie, and "Itta Guy" his poodle, still gather at his bedside to catch his mealtime crumbs.
He will be missed.
