Joseph Anthony Garcia, Sr. entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the age of 47. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in La Porte, Texas. Joseph had been struggling for quite a long time with complications associated with diabetes.
He was born on November 12, 1968 in San Antonio to Jose Garcia and Rebecca Herrera Garcia. Joseph was very close to many of his cousins in San Antonio. They were some of his most favorite people on earth. He moved to Pasadena, Texas when he was 6 years old. He attended Kruse Elementary (Go Bulldogs!), Jackson Intermediate (Go Wildcats!), and Pasadena High School (Go Eagles!). He played football in middle school and high school. Joseph began working at a young age to help the family. He has always been known as a very hard worker. The house he grew up in on Spooner Street was Grand Central Station for all of his friends. All were welcome.
Joseph became a father at age 20 when Joey was born and again 2 years later when Nicole was born. It was through the help of his mom and two sisters that he was able to raise and provide for his children. At age 27 Joseph married Maria Jasso and a year later Michelle was born. Joseph and Maria have been married for 20 years.
Joseph often worked multiple jobs at the same time. He was a sacker and produce manager for Krogers, a Diamond Shamrock store clerk, a commercial tree trimmer, and a supervisor.
Joseph was a very loving son to his mother. He would call and visit her often. He was the apple of her eye and he always brought her little tokens of his love (like tacos). Joseph was also close with his brother "Little" Joe Garcia and his sisters Sandra Herrera and Theresa Hampton. He did everything he could to help them out whenever they needed him. In fact, Joseph has helped countless people in countless ways. He was a man with a kind heart. This is evident by the many close friends that he has and the outpouring of support the family has received.
Joseph loved fishing, he loved barbecuing, he loved spending time with his family, but he loved his three granddaughters most of all; Jade, Nevaeh, and Angela. They call him "Dad" because that is what their momma called him.
Joseph was a devoted Catholic and attended church regularly at St. Pius V in Pasadena, St. Phillip's in Huffman, and St. Mary's in La Porte. He was the Godfather to seven children and was on the waiting list for more. Joseph had grown in his faith over the years and even attended an A.C.T.S. retreat in July of 2015 at the Christian Renewal Center. The retreat was sponsored by St. Joseph's..... a coincidence... I think not. He had also entered the process to become a Knight of Columbus.
Joseph is survived by his mother, his wife, his brother and two sisters, his three children, his three granddaughters, numerous nephews and nieces, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
Joseph will be greatly missed, but now we have an angel watching over us all.
