On June 6, 1956 in Jacinto City, Texas, Karen was born to Joyce and Joe Pete Scanlin. She was the youngest of five girls. Karen adored animals, while working at Spencer Animal Hospital as a technician and receptionist for 46 years. She had a unique compassion for all cats, dogs and horses, especially those of her coworkers and friends. Walks along the shore in Galveston beach brought her joy and tranquility. Her devotion to God guided her through life’s ups and downs and she strove hard to find the best about people.
Karen’s children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. In her endearing way she gave them all nicknames and looked forward to their visits. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Joyce and Joe Pete Scanlin, her husband Donnie Ray Smith and her oldest daughter Megan Denise Smith. She is survived by four sisters, Phyllis and Chas Kresch, Virgie and Johnny Cutbirth, Gail and Curtis Lewis, and Debra and Tom Marine. She is also survived by her children, Amy and John Trudel and Kimberly and Justin Willis; along with six beautiful grandchildren; Jillian, Jaelyn, Scarlett, Grace, Savannah, Beaux, and many nieces and nephews.
