Kathryn McCoy

June 6, 1929July 28, 2020

Kathryn McCoy, 91 years young, was born in Waco, TX on June 6, 1929, to Rudolph and Elsie Miller. She married Jack Douglas McCoy on August 20, 1949, in Waco, Texas. Two years later they moved to Pasadena, Texas, where she has resided for 69 years. Kathryn passed away on Tuesday, July 28th.

Kathryn loved her family. She has 3 children, Carolyn Preston and husband Paul, Marilyn Boyd and husband Mark, and Keith McCoy and wife Denise. Her 8 grandchildren and spouses are Douglas and Carrie Preston, Michael and Lauren Preston, Katye and Chad Pogue, Blake and Ashley Boyd, Kristen and Zach Colander, Brett McCoy, Taylor and Megan McCoy, and Chance McCoy. She adored her 9 great grandchildren – Macie, Jax, Colt, Nolan, Scotlynn, Wyatt, Ava, Kate, and Adelaide. She felt very blessed getting to live in the same area as all of her children. She unselfishly gave of her time to all of us and our friends and we always felt loved. She was our biggest fan and supporter and never missed a game or performance, if possible.

She is a charter member of South Main Baptist Church. Her church family was a very important part of her life. Kathryn had a contagious laugh and smile and loved to read, listen to music and travel.

Kathryn always desired a college education and was able to complete that dream after having her 3 children. After earning her BS in Education degree from University of Houston in May of 1966, she taught Math at Park View Intermediate for 26 years. After retirement she helped in the church office. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack Douglas McCoy, parents, Rudolph and Elsie Miller, brother, Walter Miller, and sisters, Meta Schneider and Lillie Jones. She is survived by her previously mentioned 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 1st, at South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena. Visitation will be at 10 AM and the Celebration of Life at 11 AM. She will be buried at the Houston National Cemetery.

Mrs. McCoy was one of the best teachers I ever had. She was so nice. Luckily I saw Mrs. McCoy at Parkview’s 50th Anniversary. I am so blessed to have had her as a teacher.

Dearest Carolyn, Marilyn, Keith and families, know that you are all in our prayers. We rejoice in the promise of 1 Thess. 4:13-18 that we will all one day be together again. Kathryn's jolly laught and upbeat personality will always be remembered. We are blessed with many delightful memories of Kathryn and Jack from church, teaching, and hunting. They have left a great legacy in all of you. We will not be able to attend the services, but know our hearts are with you. Forever friends, love Jim and Barbara Barker

Mrs. McCoy was a very special lady to so many of my classmates. I was lucky enough to share her love ❤️ of Southmain Baptist and our preschool department. Always looked for that greeting of her smiling face every Sunday. She truly touched the lives of so many. She will be so missed. Love and Hugs Mrs McCoy.

I had Mrs. McCoy for Math at Park View in 8th grade, 1967-1968. I have acalculia (math dyslexia) and I was a poor student. She encouraged me to work with the disability and to have a better self image. I am indebted to her for being a great role model and I will miss her.

I also had Mrs. McCoy for math at Park View back in 67-68. The sweetest and best teacher ever. I have also had for years as one of my security questions for a log on “ Who was your favorite teacher?” My answer... “McCoy”. RIP Mrs. McCoy.
