Laney Ross Landrum, age 79, was born on January 23, 1942 and peacefully passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021. After a long and hard-fought battle, he went to be with his Lord and to join his loved ones, who preceded him in death. His parents, William Wallace Landrum and Virginia Allen Plaice Landrum; wife, Doris Lee Landrum and daughter, Lana Jeanette Blevins. Laney is survived by his two children, Patricia Lynn Landrum Perkins and her husband, Louis and son, Michael Landon Landrum, and his two sisters, Belinda Drusilla Dickerson and Susan Lynn Zimmerman and her husband, Neal. He was loved and known as “Grandpa” by his grandchildren and their spouses, Brittany Lauren Schmidt and husband, David, Louis (Trey) Edward Perkins lll, Aaron Lee Ford, Samantha Renea Swanson and husband, Matt, and Linsy Dale Blevins. He was adored by his many great-grandchildren, Lyla Schmidt, Kenna Schmidt, Shiloh Schmidt, Evangeline Schmidt, Peyton Swanson, Rory Swanson and Melody Shod, and many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Laney was born in Houston, Texas, to a retired WWII Navy Veteran. Laney's love of country ran deep in his heart and when he was 26 years old, he WILLINGLY volunteered to serve his country during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1972. He honorably served this nation starting out as a Private and rising to the Ranks of an Army Specialist. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Expert Marksman Award. Laney loved America and what she stands for and he was passionate about his service to her. He was beloved by family and friends and known for his “Lively War Stories” and occasional “Big Fish Stories”. He never met a stranger, because he would flash his big grin at them and with that old-fashioned, honest-to-goodness, flag-waving Patriotic kind-of-guy, they would be hooked like one of his BIG fish. He would have an instant friend. He truly was a man's man just like his favorite actor, John Wayne (aka the Duke). His greatest love was his family, whom he was tremendously proud of. For the last 10 years of his life, Laney faithfully attended his church Access Ministries in Pasadena, Texas, where he was the resident, “Pappaw” by many who loved and adored him. He had many friends where he lived at Bayshore Towers Apartments. Some were considered his Guardian Angels, they watched over him and lovingly cared for him.

Trish and family,

It was not long after I started attending access that I offered my help to your dad. He asked me to come over and said 'thank you' then gave a hug and kissed me on the cheek which I wasn't expecting. I knew then that even though he had a tough exterior he was a man of honor with a big heart. He loved you and spoke highly of you as well. I will miss seeing and talking with him. My deepest condolences goes out to you and your family. May God comfort you all during this time.

Love you, Donna

I loved and respected Laney with all my heart!

Every time we spoke he somehow left me smiling and laughing. He loved us all, as well as our country and military. We'll all miss him, but his legacy of love, laughter and commitment will live on for generations to come.

To Trish, Louis and the entire family: Your church family is holding you up in prayer. We pray that our Lord will comfort and be with you.

Love,
Jeff Yates

Trish and Perkins family,
Your dad was a “special” person to so many of us in @ccess. We enjoyed our times as he faithfully showed up to service each week and always had something funny to say and smile about. We know y’all will miss him but also know his reward in Heaven has finally came.
Thank you for sharing your dad with us,
We love you!

I will miss our long conversations as we talked about so many things. I love you Laney💙✝️💙 you will be missed!
Some of my memories are, having you walk me to school in your Army uniform it made feel so special! I also remember when you would take Patricia, Lana, Michael, and I to get hamburgers at Princess Hamburgers stand in your convertible. Those hamburgers were the best! Being I was 16 years younger than you, you told me that you use to change my diapers. Thanks!
I wish you, and I could have gone fishing together this Summer. 🎣
Neal and I, are going to come this Summer and I'm going to use your fishing pole in memory of you. 🎣
Rest in Peace 🙏❤️🙏
Love your baby sister.
