

Lawrence Wayne Parks, Sr., 75, resident of Deer Park, TX, joined The Church Triumphant on May 29, 2023, at home in Deer Park, TX. Mr. Parks was born in Pittsburgh, Kansas, on April 21, 1947, and was raised in Beaumont, Texas by his parents, Raymond Charles, Sr. and Helen Silvey Parks. He graduated from Beaumont High School and immediately joined the U.S. Navy where he served for 6 years during the Vietnam war receiving two purple hearts and an honorable discharge. After graduating from the DPS Academy, he married Carol Parks in Fort Worth and moved to Lufkin and later on to Pasadena where he served as a Texas DPS officer and retired as a Texas Ranger in 1998. Upon retirement, Mr. Parks volunteered at Bonnette Junior High School in Deer Park where Mrs. Parks taught school. They were married for 51 years. Mr. Parks has been a faithful member of First Presbyterian church for 51 years, volunteering as a youth group parent-leader, serving as an elder, singing in the choir and working in the Gathering Place ministry.
Mr. Parks was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers James Doyle Parks and Raymond Charles Parks, Jr. He is survived by his wife Alta Carol Parks, his sister, Deborah Louise Parks, his daughter Kimberly Michelle Griswold and husband, John Griswold, and grandsons Devin, Austin and Cameron Griswold and five great-grandchildren; and his son Lawrence Wayne Parks, Jr. and wife Kristen Parks, his granddaughters Makensie Paige, Emma Elizabeth, Macy Lauren and Addison Ainsley Parks.
Mr. Parks was a servant to his country, his community, his family and his Savior. He believed in the principles of loving God and family and served them faithfully.
A Funeral Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena, 4647 Preston, Pasadena, TX 77505, on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2:00 pm. There will be a visitation at 12:00 pm and a reception immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to either Presbyterian Women Veterans Ministry or to a charity of choice. Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Parks, Ross Haskins, Austin Prince, Steve Haskins, John Griswold, Austin Griswold, Devin Griswold and Cameron Griswold.
