Mary Walden Norrix of Pasadena, TX left this earth on Thursday, April 16th, 2020 to be with her sweet Jesus. After numerous years of battling various health issues, the Lord took her peacefully, surrounded by her family who released her in love.
Mary was a loving wife, wonderful mother, proud Mimi, sweet sister and loyal friend.
She was greeted in Heaven by the loved ones that proceeded her in death: her parents, Debs and Dora Walden; her brother, Bobby Walden; and three unborn babies that she so longed to meet.
Mary was born in Austin, Texas on May 27th, 1936. She had beautiful childhood memories of growing up there in the midst of all of her sweet cousins.
Soon, her family settled in South Houston, TX where she attended PISD schools.
She went on to graduate High School, class of ‘53, from Southwestern Bible Institute (Southwestern Assembly of God University) in Waxahachie, TX.
After graduating she met the love of her life, Arron Jack Norrix, a handsome, Purple Heart Marine with black hair and a charming smile-complete with dimples that made her swoon. With Mary’s auburn red hair and amber eyes they made an exceptionally attractive couple; they were very quickly engaged to marry.
Vows were exchanged on July 17th, 1954, led by the Reverend Crawford Swaim of South Houston Assembly of God, where the couple met and attended church.
Mary and Jack were married for 65 years and 9 months and were blessed with 3 daughters they were immensely proud of: The Norrix Girls.
Mary was a faithful and active member of Faith Assembly of God in Pasadena, TX for over 53 years.
She showed Gods love and compassion to everyone she came into contact with and was gracious, generous and kind.
She was young at heart, fun loving, enjoyed laughter and loved a little innocent mischief as she was creative and free-spirited, but loved the Lord and whole heartedly served Him.
Mary never met a stranger and was proclaimed by all as one of the sweetest souls God created.
She exhibited the innocence of a child and the wisdom of a scholar.
She loved children with a passion and enjoyed childlike things...always remembering them and providing the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus with all the goodies.
She spent many years ministering to children within the church and outside of it as well.
Over the years, she taught Sunday School, led children’s church and sponsored Missionettes before establishing the Hi-Ho Club for the children of small group attendees at her home church.
The acronym stood for “Holy In-Holy Out”. She poured holiness into the children for several years and many of those “kids” still remember their time with her.
Another calling Mary pursued, was sponsorship of underprivileged children to summer church camp.
She and Jack quietly ministered in that way for decades, while also supporting multiple other ministries inside the church.
Among her numerous talents were floral design, bargain shopping and conversation and she was equally good at all of them!
She saw beauty in everyone and in everything and allowed grace for even the seemingly most lost.
Her family would often laugh that she would proclaim “the devil just needs Jesus”.
Mary and her sweet smile and tender spirit will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by those that she left behind: Husband, Jack Norrix; daughter, Jacqui Vandagriff and husband Mark; daughter, Jill Norrix; daughter, Veronica Wilburn and husband Troy; granddaughter, Stephanie Bachle and husband Chris; sister, June Richter; brother, Wendel Walden; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Due to COVID19 concerns Mary’s service is postponed until Saturday May 16th @ 12pm with visitation will @ 11am.
Internment will be a private ceremony @ The Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please consider contributing to the Mary Norrix “Send a Kid to Church Camp” fund.

Select “Faith Children’s Ministry” under the “Tithes” drop down then add a “private message” for Mary under “Additional Options” at the bottom of the page.
As much as she loved flowers, she would be tickled to know that her legacy of introducing children to the love of Jesus could be extended.
