Mr. Gillioz was a hell of a man. I’ll always remember him in my life at South Houston Intermediate. He meant the world to me. I just didn’t know what a profound impact he would have on my life.  RIP Sir. ❤️

I didn't have Coach Gillioz for P.E. at Sam Rayburn, but I remember him giving a pat of appreciation on the backsides of Sam Rayburn Texans football defenders when they made a defensive stand that he appreciated. I also want to express my condolences to my former classmate from Southmore Intermediate, and later in my graduating class of 1974 - Steve Gillioz.  Your father was a fine man, but so are you!

Mr. Gillioz was the VP at South Houston Intermediate in the late '70s when I was a student there. He was mythical in his power to shoot a look at a misbehaving student and have that student immediately switch gears for the better. Of course none of us ever knew about his personal life, his achievements, and athletic career. If we had, we might have better understood why such a physically imposing man was also a no-nonsense guy who did his best to keep us on the straight and narrow. My condolences to the family. Your dad was obviously an amazing man.

My Buddy Gillioz story is from the early 80s when I was a 6th grader at South Houston Jr. High.  I was called into the office and I was terrified - I hadn't done a thing wrong!  Out comes this larger than life man who wanted to know which one of us was the daughter of Doc Thompson.  Ummm, that would be me.  He then told me about his rotary lunches with my grandfather (Doc Thompson) and how he coached my dad in football at Rayburn (Henry Thompson).  We got along so well at that point that I was later his office assistant.

He was an incredibly nice and fair man and I'm so sorry he's gone.

I am very sorry for your loss.  Coach Gillioz was a fine and decent man and always treated me with respect as a student and later in life as well.  He will be missed

Such a wonderful man, he was my PE coach at Sam Rayburn. Sorry for your loss.

 I knew Coach Gillioz (Buddy), first as a young boy, as he was the summer lifeguard at our neighborhood pool in Sherwood Forest and later as a high school student at Rayburn. Many times I watched him dive into the pool and come up underneath a child in danger and burst out above the water with the child in the palm of his hand and gently toss them out of the pool.

I was so sorry to hear that Mr.Gillioz had passed away. My prayers go with you and your family. I was so blessed to have been able to work for him. When my husband broke his leg and didn't have a job to go back to he helped to get him one.

Coach Gillioz holds a special place in so many hearts, mine included.  He was our friend, life-guard, teacher. My first experience with Coach Gillioz, he was the life guard at Sherwood Pool.  It was 1957, I was 3 years old and Coach decided I needed to learn to swim.  He taught me and I never forgot.  It was either swim or drown!  He was a great personality and I loved him!  He will be greatly missed.

With deepest heartfelt Sympathy and prayers to the family. We moved next door to Buddy and Betty Gillioz in 1974 and then met Paula and Steve..  We shared good times, funny times and even double dated to a dance club..  Buddy's sense of humor was hilarious and his zest for life and education he shared with everyone!   Years have past since the Gillioz's lived next door, but it is the memories that today still make you smile recalling the antics, the laughter and the best of Buddy.  Today, my girls follow the same passion for education that Buddy shared. Buddy will be greatly missed!

He will be remembered as the "Best of the best" by our family. He coached me, Lynn Pearson at SOHO Junior High. He also watched over and taught my daughter, Betsy, my son, Scott and youngest daughter, Mandy. We all loved him.

I have such fun memories if swimming at the Sherwood pool when I was quite young. Coach Gillies was the lifeguard. So sorry for your loss. I remember Mr. Gillioz as my assistant principal at South Houston Intermediate. I remember getting my one and only detention from Ms. Bardin for chewing gum, and Mr. Gillioz noticed and called me to his office to talk to me. He was amazed that I had never had detention ever, and wanted to talk to me about it. I will never forget him caring enough to make sure I stayed out of trouble. God bless him.
