

He was born on July 14th 1959 in San Antonio, Texas, where he grew up on a game ranch he built with his father. After high school, Buddy began a career as an iron worker with H.B. Zachry that spanned 45 years. He helped build numerous power plants and industrial projects. Respected throughout the industry for his knowledge, leadership, and ability to accomplish even the most challenging work, he earned the nickname "The Iron Wizard”. Outside of work, Buddy enjoyed fishing, collecting and building firearms, spending time with family and friends, astronomy, going to concerts, and listening to music. He had a deep appreciation for music, especially the work of Eric Clapton. More than his accomplishments, Buddy will be remembered for his warmth, his willingness to help others, and his genuine, authentic nature. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Fears-Wondra, his father, Melvin D.
Wondra Sr., and his brother, John Wondra. He is survived by his children Sarah Wondra and Brian Wondra, nieces Lauren Carrington Smith and Susan Wondra, nephew John Wondra, cousin Ben Ashton, and many other family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Buddy's life will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Pasadena Funeral Chapel in Pasadena, Texas. Visitation with the family will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the memorial service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to share a meal and fellowship in celebration of Buddy's life at Don-Key Mexican Restaurant. Buddy will be laid to rest beside his parents in the family plot in San Antonio, Texas.
His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the work he built, and the love and respect he earned throughout his life.
Melvin D Wondra passed on August 27, 2026, at the age of 67. Born July 14, 1959, Melvin will be honored with a visitation at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, 2203 PASADENA BLVD, PASADENA, TX 77502, US, on September 6, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at Pasadena Funeral Chapel at the same address on September 6, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
