Ramona R. Lopez, 94, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at her home in South Houston, Texas. A woman of profound strength and devotion, Ramona’s life was a testament to the power of family and faith.
Her Early Life and Legacy of Hard Work
Born on December 26, 1931, in Mercedes, Texas, to Ireneo and Rebeca Rodriguez, Ramona was raised by her grandparents, Juan and Rita Soto, in Los Fresnos. It was in those very fields at Tandy Farms where she met the love of her life, Pablo Lopez. They were wed on June 14, 1952, and began a journey together that would span decades and be blessed with seven children.
For many years, Ramona was the definition of industrious. She worked the fields of Los Fresnos and spent her summers traveling to Ohio, harvesting everything from tomatoes and cucumbers to apples and oranges. Her hands helped provide for her family through the literal fruits of her labor, a work ethic she carried with her throughout her entire life.
A Journey of Faith and Artistry
In 1980, the family relocated to South Houston, where Ramona transitioned into a new chapter of her life—devoting herself entirely to her children and the raising of her grandchildren. It was during this time that she found her spiritual home. Baptized on February 8, 1981, Ramona’s "newfound faith" became the cornerstone of her existence. She was a dedicated member of her church, serving in every capacity she could and becoming a prayer warrior for those she loved.
Throughout these years, Ramona also found a peaceful outlet in her love for crochet. A gifted creator, she spent much of her free time crafting remarkable pieces that showcased her patience and skill. These handmade treasures remain a beautiful reflection of her spirit—intricate, strong, and full of care.
Family and Remembrance
Ramona was the pillar of a sprawling, loving family. She is survived by her children: Alejandro (Matilde) Lopez, Beatrice Infante, Arturo (Marie) Lopez, Betty (Filimon) Lona, Jose Angel (Francisca) Lopez, and daughter-in-law Cecilia Lopez. Her legacy continues through numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family and many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pablo Lopez; her infant daughter, Amelia Lopez; her son, Abel Lopez; and her grandsons, Bailey Lona and Josue Infante.
Ramona will be remembered not just for her labor in the fields, but for the spiritual seeds she planted in her family. Her life lessons, wise advice, and the countless prayers she whispered for her loved ones will never be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
