Richard Dow Harper was born in Houston, Texas on December 8th, 1954 to John Allon and Eva Nell Lary Harper. He passed from his earthly body on June 3rd, 2021 in Pasadena, Texas.

Richard grew up in South Houston and attended South Houston High School—Class of 1974. He was a heavy equipment operator for Brown & Root and worked at several chemical plants in the Pasadena area. He later worked for Harris County Pct. 2 and TX DOT continuing as a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had several hot rods and motorcycles through the years. More importantly Richard was a child of God and was a faithful member of Watters Road Church of Christ.

In October 2013, Richard suffered a brain stem stroke and we were not sure if he would survive. But through his tenacity and a lot of stubbornness he survived and by 2015 was living on his own and driving. While he had to deal with some physical limitations, he was a great advocate for his health. He was at the gym at 6AM Monday-Friday running on the treadmill trying to stay active.

Richard is survived by his brothers, Don Harper of Lubbock; David and his wife Danielle of New Caney. Also surviving are his nephews and niece, Sean and his wife, Paige of Lubbock; Michael and his wife, Lacey of New Orleans; Meghan and James Moses of London, England. He was especially proud of his great nephews, Jack and Thomas Harper of Lubbock and Jasper Moses of London, England and loved seeing their pictures on face book. He is also survived by many cousins that loved him dearly.

Richard was a vital part of our family and will be greatly missed by all of us. He always had a joke to tell and a big smile on his face. We will be burying Richard next to his mother at the Bald Prairie Cemetery where five generations of our family are resting with the Lord.

I meet Richard in the early 1972 I was his neighbor and his family on avenue F street. He was the sweetest person ever. My sister Darlene and I started going to the gym and ran in to him there. Every morning we got there he was on the treadmill. We would talk to him first thing.
He had so many friends at the gym. He would always introduce us to his friends. And he loved his family and I always remember his mom walking down to Marie’s so they could do their hair.
He loved his church family so much.
God bless your family.

Even though I did not know him for a long time , we all our friends would talk every morning at the gym. He was a very nice person and we talked about Jesus and some politics. He loved his Mother and his brothers very much. And he trusted in the Lord as his Savior. We will miss him very much . May he rest in peace.
