Thelma attended school in Uvalde, Texas, and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. She began her career as a teacher and a counselor at Robb Elementary, continuing in that work until she married. Thelma was married to her beloved David Oscar Weathers for 40 years who passed away in 2020. She was the mother of two sons, David and James, who were the apple of her eyes.
