A dedicated ranch woman rode into the spring sunset April 2, 2015. Beverley "Bev" Liane (Piorier) Wood was born September 9, 1926 to May and Joe Poirier in Stockton, CA. An only child, she grew up helping her mother run their small restaurant. Beverley became a very good cook and adept at feeding large groups, which carried through to all her years on the family ranch in Bryson/Hesperia, Monterey County, CA. Bev was a very private, proud woman and conducted her life with certainty and efficiency. She was known for operating by-the-book. Her attention to detail and fairness was evident during her career at Post Engineers, Ft. Hunter Liggett, and as Horse Show Secretary for Salinas Valley Fair and California Mid-State Fair. She was honored and revered by all her colleagues and peers in her retirement. Bev was a life-long member of Monterey County an San Luis Obispo County Cattlewomen, having earned many honors and distinctions while holding offices in both. Besides her cow-calf herd. Bev's passion on the ranch was raising good ranch horses and traveling with Ray Nelson and his Nelson hounds. They covered many mountainsides controlling the lion populations together. They are now legends to be remembered and respected in that realm. Bev is survived by her son, Kim, of Creston, CA; grandchildren, Tania (Glynn) Whitman of Madill, OK; Tyler Wood of Creston, CA; and Misty (Derrick) Tartaglia of Harmony, CA; her great-grandchildren, Reese, and Tanna Tartaglia, and Chance Whitman. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lesa (Derryal) John of Shandon, CA. At Beverley's request, there will be no service. Donations can be made to the San Luis Obispo County Cattlewomen Scholarship Fund. There will be some amazing hounds and horses in Heaven now. Rest in peace dear Beverley.
