Catherine "Cathy" Eleanor Fitzgerald Turner, lived a life rooted in family, friendship, service, and an unwavering commitment to her community. She leaves behind a legacy of love and countless memories cherished by the many people whose lives she touched.
The daughter of Joseph and Margret Fitzgerald, Cathy grew up in Bellflower, California, and graduated from Bellflower High School in 1960. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ralph L. Turner, whom she married soon after.
Together, Cathy and Ralph built a life and raised their four children: Anne, Tammy, Ralph Jr., and Margret in South Gate, California, where they were actively involved in the community. They served as board members and coaches of the SGJAA, were boosters at SGHS, and were active parishioners at both St. Helen’s and St. Emydius Catholic Churches. Their dedication to their children, their community, and their faith was a defining part of their lives.
In 1989, Cathy and Ralph retired to Paso Robles, California, a place they would proudly call home for the next 35-plus years. Retirement did not mean slowing down for Cathy. She continued to give her time, energy, and heart to the community she loved. Whether cooking and volunteering for People’s Kitchen, helping with the Christmas Outreach Program, St. Rose Parish ministry or serving as a founding member of the Ground Squirrel Hollow Community Services District, Cathy was always willing to lend a hand. She served the CSD faithfully until her retirement in 2025.
Cathy was more than a volunteer or a neighbor. She was truly a beat in the pulse of her community. She believed in showing up, pitching in, and taking care of people. In Ground Squirrel Hollow, she was surrounded by extraordinary neighbors and friends who looked after her as though she were their own family. The love and kindness they showed her reflected the same spirit of generosity that Cathy had shared with others throughout her life.
Cathy was strong, determined, and never one to complain. Even as she battled cancer over the past year, she faced her challenges with remarkable courage and refused to give up. When those around her worried, her familiar response was, “No! I’m fine.” Those words, delivered in true Cathy fashion, will undoubtedly bring smiles through the tears of those who knew and loved her.
Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph L. Turner; her son, Ralph Turner Jr.; her parents, Joseph and Margret Fitzgerald; her sister, Mary Moore; and her brothers, Joe and David Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne Turner, Tammy Turner Villareal, and Margret Turner; her grandchildren, Cassie (Kate), Joe (Jessica), Brett (Tory), and Lauren (Jorge); and her great-grandchildren, Travis, Logan, Brynn, and Davis. She also leaves behind her sons-in-law, Dan Villareal and Dave Heady; her sister, Alice Gresto; her brother, Tom Fitzgerald; and a multitude of extended family members and loved ones.
Her daughters wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Cathy throughout the past year as she battled cancer. The kindness, generosity, and love shown to her and her family will never be forgotten. Special thanks go to the caring staff at San Luis Infusion Center and the compassionate ICU nurses at Twin Cities Hospital for the care and comfort they provided.
Cathy’s life was a testament to the power of family, friendship, faith, and community. She gave generously of herself, stood strong through life’s challenges, and made a difference in ways both big and small. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family, her friends, her neighbors, and the many people who were fortunate enough to know her.
Though she is no longer here to lend a hand, share a story, or reassure everyone that she is just fine, Cathy’s spirit will live on in the community she helped build, the family she loved so dearly, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
She was loved, she will be missed, and she will never be forgotten.
