Debi was born in Idaho Falls, ID on June 28th, 1960. Her family moved to Salinas, California and eventually to Ventura when she was a young girl. Her older sister Korrine, was her childhood rock and protector and Mom had many fond memories of the two of them living their early years together. Debi spent her teen years near the beach with her best friends, glued to each other's side where Mom could mostly either be found at school scoping out the basketball players with Ramona or at the beach scoping out the surfers with Robin. She continued for the rest of her life having a magnetic draw to the ocean.
She met Dennis McIntosh after he returned to Ventura from 'Nam circa 1978 and the two got married by the time she was 19. He was working at Montgomery Ward and she at the local Holiday Inn. Debi and her family moved to Paso Robles, Ca in 1989 where she raised two kids, Melissa and Will (some recognize him as "Mike"). Over the years, Mom moved to Arizona and then to Oregon but .... "You can take the girl from the beach but can never take the beach from the girl" and she permanently came back "home" to the Central Coast in 2009. Debi had a wide range of careers having owned a clothing store named “The Classic Closet”, worked in the school sector in technology and mathematics, as well as managing at non-profits: The American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.
Debi knew how to enjoy the little things in life, like a succulent T-bone steak, a handful of seashells from the beach, or a fast drive (shhh...don't tell her kids, lol) down the coast with the top down of her convertible MR2 Spyder. She was an adventurous eater, having honed her personal cooking skills and not shying away from new foods (Rocky Mountain oysters!).
Despite having had complications with chickenpox as an adult and having been a breast cancer survivor, Debi had preserved her inner resilience, charm and strength and always loved sacrificially and unconditionally. She enjoyed DIY projects, spending time with her pets, and playing with her grandkids.
The most influential aspect of Mom was her love for Jesus and steadfastness in her faith. She continuously spoke to others about how the Lord guided her, protected her and cared for her throughout her life from in-utero to her last days Earthside. She never feared telling others about Jesus' love and of His life, death, resurrection and eventual eternal glory at the right hand of God The Father. She spoke of how every person is chosen for eternal life as long as they accept Him and believe the gospel. There is no doubt that when Mom's earthly heart stopped beating, and the Holy Spirit came for her soul, at the gates of heaven the angels were singing and she heard from her Father, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21
Debi is survived by her children Melissa and Will McIntosh; granddaughters Charlotte and Vera.
Her celebration of life is being held at Avila beach on June 28th, 2025, 4-8 p.m.
