Don (Donald Wayne) Timmerman was born on Friday, April 23rd, 1943 in San Luis Obispo General Hospital. His parents were June Margaret Pierce and Wayne Arnold Timmerman. He passed away on Tuesday, October, 7th, 2025 at the age of 82.
Don lived much of his youth in the City of Morro Bay and if you ever drove around town with him, he would always point out and comment on the many Morro Bay places where his life events/stories occurred - "...see that house, my Grandma Pierce lived there.", "There's the old Morro Bay Movie Theatre (now The Bay Theatre). My Aunt Meldine and Uncle Harold Nash ran it and they lived upstairs.", "..There's Dorn's Breakers Cafe, it used to be The Breakers Cafe, my mom was their best waitress, I worked there too as a short-order line-cook.", and when he was in Cayucos, "...Over there is where i rose my horse..." He had stories about all parts of San Luis Obispo County!
Don’s family includes his wife, Priscilla “Dianne” (they were married 43 years ago on November 27th 1982); daughter Kimberly Cones of Atascadero, stepchildren: Katherine “Katie” Osborn of Ventura and Ben “Dietrech” Carpio-Timmerman (deceased); Don’s brothers Rodney Timmerman (deceased) and Randolph “Randy” Timmerman and sister-in-law Theresa Timmerman of Atascadero.
His Grandchildren are: Kinsley Cones, Chase Hanson, Sabrina Hernandez, Johnny Cones (deceased), Gavin Osborn and Madeline Osborn. Great Grandchildren are: Noëlle Hanson, Carter Hanson, and soon-to- be-born in December baby Jackson Hanson, Lukah Hernandez, Mikah Hernandez and Braxton Hernandez plus beloved Nieces, Nephews, Cousins. All Family members were important to him.
Don was a sweet (sometimes mischievous) boy, youth, teenager, young adult, middle aged and finally “older” man who had many beloved relatives and friends. His guides as he was growing up included his Parents, his paternal and maternal Grandparents and great Grandparents, Uncles and Aunts. Don was proud to be the older Brother to Rodney and Randy. Don had so many cousins and good friends throughout San Luis Obispo County that for many of the first years of their marriage where ever they would go – grocery or hardware store, gas station, restaurant, etc. – Don would say hello to someone and Dianne then met another one of Don’s numerous Cousins or Friends.
Don was an Elder of the Salinan Indian Tribe of Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties; he was descended from two Grandmothers Maria Pierce and Katharine “Kate” Pierce. Today Salinan members are very active on the Central Coast.
You can learn more about the Tribe at https://salinantribe.com and on their Facebook “Central Coast Native” Page” https://www.facebook.com/SalinanTribe/friends_mutual
In 1981, Dianne (who had lived in the San Fernando Valley for 30 years) wanted to move to a
small-town homey environment where she and her daughter Katie who then was 12 could live. Don and Dianne “met cute” when Kimberly and Katie started attending the same Paso Robles Flamson Middle School, riding the same bus. That led Dianne to discover that an “unmarried very handsome” Don and daughter Kimberly lived just 4 blocks down Twelfth Street from Dianne and Katie. So Dianne invited them to dinner and the rest was history; their marriage followed a little over a year later. Over the years sisters Katie & Kimberly have grown very close.
Don was a multi-talented, curious, inventive, resourceful man. He was their home’s construction worker, plumber, tile setter, renovator, landscaper, floor installer, concrete and brick designer/setter, welder, wallpaper hanger, painter, and Don-of-all-Trades guy! And whether for their home or his work --- if something needed to be made to make something work, Don would create a makeshift “MacGyver-like” fix – he was really talented that way.
Those who know, know that Don’s truck license plate read GLFRDON, a present from his daughter Kimberly. Oh, how he loved the game of Golf. He caddied when he was young at the Morro Bay Golf Course. He played Golf with his Mother June, with his Cousin Lonnie Nash (also Don & Dianne’s Best Man at their wedding), his good friend Larry Flood, with his Grandson Chase, and anyone who might tee up at Morro Bay, Dairy Creek, Chalk Mountain, Hunter Ranch and The Links in Paso Robles Golf Courses. He taught Daughter Kimberly golf when she was a little girl. He had the clothes, he had the clubs and balls, he had the score cards and he could drive a ball a really, really long way. There was less play in his later years, but he never lost his love of the game; he was always ready to explain the game and the rules to Dianne as they watched many a tournament on TV.
At the young age of 17, Don with his father Wayne’s permission joined the US Army. Don rose in rank during his three years in the Army from 1960 – 1963 to Sgt. E5 Class. Part of that time, he was stationed in Passau, Germany. Fifty years later Don & Dianne, on a 2012 Danube Riverboat Excursion, included a Passau stop where they visited various sites of his Army days. Don was pretty proud that at the age of 82, he could still fit into his Army Jacket.
His early working career was interesting and varied. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator including backhoes, loaders, graders, and haulers; as a Class A Commercial License Semi-Truck Driver (such trucks typically have 5 axels and are 70+ feet long) WOW!; Sales Representative for a welding/industrial products supply company; Foreman for a concrete water-storage tank construction company; Store Manager/Sales Rep for a feed, seed, fertilizer and farm supply company; Buyer of wheat and beans in Nebraska; Retail Sales of vitamins, minerals and drugs for livestock; and a Department Manager/Sales Buyer of local grain and feed. He worked in a variety of cities in California including Ontario, Union City, Arroyo Grande, Lompoc, Morro Bay, Cambria, San Ardo, and Paso Robles to name a few.
Again driving around the County with Don would help educate you on what various grain crops were growing in the fields, to learn that cattle lying down in the fields had had their sustenance for the day, that the typical fertilizer for that crop over there was...etc., etc.
In 1996, Don became owner/operator of his own Company --- wdi: window décor and installation. He studied, passed the examination and was awarded a California Contractor’s license for his speciality of Window Decor Installation. Through the years he had many, many clients including installing and replacing blinds for very many of the County of San Luis Obispo Government offices and buildings. Other “installs” he was especially proud of included the “voluminous fire-proofed stage curtains” for the Veterans Building in SLO, special blinds at Hearst Castle and for many years, all of the window décor clients for ADA’s Flooring/Window Coverings in Morro Bay. Don had only just retired his business earlier this year.
What a sense of humor Don had. He had an interest in so many facets of life. He was a true Friend to his Friends and to his Family members. A heartfelt, appreciative thank you to all who loved him.
A Celebration of Don’s Life to be held at the Paso Robles VFW Hall located at 240 Scott Street Paso Robles CA 93446 on Saturday, November 22nd starting at 1:30 PM (please RSVP – E-mail: [email protected]).
